    Production Line Labelling

    Customised line side label printing on demand and at a fraction of the traditional cost

    It is a legal requirement that every vehicle produced must have a VIN Plate and Visible VIN  (VIS VIN) label, for identification. Customised compliance labels and tyre placards are also a common requirement. In the past, OEM production plants have used either a laser-engraving or embossing machine situated at line side to provide customised markings. Many automotive manufacturers have adopted a strategy of replacing these old technologies with thermal transfer printing systems. These systems can be implemented for about one third of the cost of a laser engraver and offer significantly lower running costs.

    BENEFITS

    • GSM label and ribbon combinations will withstand the most rigorous under bonnet tests.
    • GSM have developed a label construction with a chemically resistant topcoat and ribbon combination that will meet EU regulation 76/114/EEC 18/12/75. The surface print withstands 7 hours immersion in brake fluid.
    • No need to change reels during a shift because the number of labels on each reel can cover one complete work shift.
    • Real time label printing with peel and present.
    • Removal of labels after final application to the product will display clear TAMPER EVIDENCE. on the product enabling your labels to  achieve a higher Thatcham score for up to half the cost of laser markable materials.
    • Printer and workstation both fit within a euro pallet size footprint and are forklift truck proof.
    • A flashing beacon indicates system errors although the system will auto switch between printers if an error occurs.
    • Spoilt labels can easily be reprinted but security is protected by using a supervisor-controlled password.
    • Unique dial-in support feature is available (if external phone line is provided)
    • All development has been completed in house giving swift and uncomplicated access to support and further development.
    • Entire system can be installed in one day with no down time on the line.
    • The ergonomic system design conforms to all health and safety requirements.
    • The capital cost of a system is less than one third of the cost of a laser engraver.

    GSM Group have four manufacturing sites and is one of Europe’s largest manufacturers of nameplates labels and die cut adhesive parts.. All our computer software and label constructions have been developed in house. Our experience in this environment has been used to design the ultimate line side label printing system!

    FEATURES

    • All projects start with a specification day. Our Systems Analysts will spend at least one full day on site ensuring that all parties clearly understand the  detailed requirements. GSM will then produce a full working specification document.
    • Two printers mounted side by side in a robust enclosure designed for the line side environment offer a high level of system resilience and built in redundancy.
    • The system can produce labels to individual OEM’s label test specifications including the most aggressive under bonnet tests.
    • Labels can be designed as a family set containing the VIN and VIS VIN labels or as individual labels. Peel and present where the release paper is removed and the label presented to the operator is also possible.
    • The printers are driven from a fully integrated rugged line side workstation, which can be fitted with a robust industrial button. This button will initiate the ‘Cycle Start’ A beacon system continuously displays the system status. Both the printers and the workstation can be mounted close to line side.
    • Information can be extracted  from any existing build control computer system. Error messages and warning information can be exchanged.
    • GSM engineers will commission the system and train operators, supervisors and maintenance engineers. We do not use subcontractors.
